February
and March brought a nice selection of clear
and colored cup plates to the ebay site. We all eagerly
await the release of the next Cup Plate Auction at Green
Valley. It is scheduled to be ready in April.
If you know of
upcoming auctions or good Glass Cup Plate Sales,

Controversy
We
have had some wonderful discussions about the Lavender
56 and the final comments are still open for discussion.
Arch Doty has been conducting some wonderful testing
on purple glass and we still have many months to go
before we will publish his findings.
The
next phase of the discussion will be to test and compare
certain plates that are known to have been altered,
so stay tuned and please add your thoughts. There are
no right or wrong questions or answers as we search
for the truth.
I
will be opening Pandora's box once again, hopefully
in April. In that eNewsletter we will open for discussion
another controversy, entitled, "The
Problem with Variants". So please
sharpen your pencils and please participate in that
discussion when it appears.
LR298
Emerald Green XR
The
American Glass Cup Plates book description:
"This
type with its 68 dots about the rim has not been recorded
in clear glass. Of the Amethyst specimens, we believe
several sets of six have been found in New England.
The Emerald Green example is reported by Mr. George
S. McKearin and may be unique. Another similar plate
with 69 dots on the rim ( there are other slight
variations ) occurs in clear and some peculiar colors,
pink, a smoky blue, etc., and does not ring. The 69
dot variety is probably a modern fake. In any event
it seems best to avoid either the 68 or 69 dot type
if it does not ring."

LR298
Blue Green
Both
of the plates shown have 68 dots with diameters of 3.75".
They appear to be very late plates and my first instinct
says reproductions. They are very highly polished, very
flat profiles and have straw marks. The Emerald Green
has a nice flint ring, where-as the blue green does
not.
If
you own a LR298 in your collection, we would appreciate
your comments. cupplates@aol.com
